SUBEENA: PICTURE / SPECTRUMS (OPIT RECORDS)

After laying to rest her co-run Immigrant / Imminent Recordings, Subeena makes a fresh start with this debut imprint on her own label Opit. Far from resting on laurels after her fantastic Planet Mu release in late 2009, Subeena has no doubt been keeping busy with production and label management, making her one of the hardest working people in bass music. Picture reminisces the golden era of electronic music with Aphex-like strings and beautifully entwined synth melodies, whilst keeping in with au currant broken percussions, making this a cutting edge track demonstrating perfectly an integration of past and present without a drop of irony. Moving on, Spectrums continues the trend with crazy Detroity harpsichord pads and 4/4 beat that takes you right back into the era of dark warehouse raves. However, the sound remains innovative an new and not in any way recycled or tired.
This young producer shows a level of skill, innovation, skill and guts that many a producer lacks these days. We look forward to OPT002 and so should you.
