LUKE VIBERT - WE HEAR YOU (PLANET MU)

The man of many names returns returns with this 14-track Planet Mu album, released under the humble name given to him by his Mum. Luke Vibert is well known for his genre zig-zag and this album is no exception. Famous for his acid synths and big basslines, Mr Vibert goes all hip hop on this rather un-Planet Mu release and whips up a selection of broken electronica featuring numerous Dilla-esque samples cut-and-pasted over Beastie Boy-ish beats, joined by Vibert’s signatory blend of melodic synths and 303s.
We Hear Uou has elements of dubstep, garage, G-funk, electro and maintains a very comfortable BPM all the way through making it suitable for both the DJ bag and journey to your Nan’s house. As the variety of ideas and production on this album shows, Vibert is indeed keeping up to date and is not stuck in his old acid ways unlike some of his other contemporaries. However the omnipresent attempt at LA/Madlib-style production gets a bit repetitive and is a tad to heavy on the vocal sampling. Nevertheless, he makes up for it with some cracking old-skool sounding bangers only Vibert could create, making this album one of his best to date. Listen with a spliff or a glowstick - both will do.
We Hear You is released on Planet Mu on August 10th.
